How pickup works
At First State Autos, we’ve streamlined our motorcycle donation pickup process for your convenience. Our experienced team uses small flatbeds or trailers to ensure safe and efficient transport. You don’t need to worry about providing keys, as our crew can load your motorcycle without them. We use strap tie-downs at the frame for maximum stability during transport. The timing of your donation can also play a role in the auction process; springtime donations often see a quicker turnaround and potentially higher auction values due to increased demand during the riding season. If your motorcycle is currently in a storage lot, we can coordinate the pickup directly from there!
What drives donation value
The value of your motorcycle donation is influenced by several factors beyond just mileage. For older cruisers, the vehicle's history can significantly determine its appraisal value. Harley-Davidson models, for example, tend to hold their value well and are always in demand. Japanese cruisers devalue slower, while sport bikes are highly condition-sensitive, with well-maintained models fetching better prices than those that have been misused. Remember that aftermarket parts can both add to and subtract from value, depending on their quality and relevance to potential buyers. For vintage, custom, or low-mileage models, an IRS Form 8283 Section B appraisal by a qualified appraiser may be necessary to determine the correct deduction value.
Documentation you need

Delaware specifics
In Delaware, the DMV requires that motorcycle owners transfer the title properly during donation. A signed title ensures that First State Autos can legally take possession of the motorcycle. Unlike some states, Delaware allows for the transfer of ownership with a bill of sale under certain conditions, but having a clear title is always preferred for a smoother process. This ensures compliance with state regulations and protects both you and the charity. Your motorcycle donation helps keep Delaware’s roads vibrant and safe.
